Over the past few years, United Way of Carlsbad and South Eddy County has focused on supporting basic needs in our community. In 2016, we saw the opening of our communities first two Homeless Shelters via Carlsbad Transitional Housing and Homeless Shelter and Carlsbad Community of Hope. We were able to provide over $75,000 in money to help with the building of the Emergency Shelter, and then an additional $2x,xxx in operating funds for the shelter. I’m addition to that, Carlsbad Community of Hope was awarded $8,875 in an Emerging Community Needs Grant for the completion of the bathrooms at their facility. Both of these shelters are very instrumental support services to help the most vulnerable in our community by filling the basic need of shelter. Because of your continued financial support, United Way of Carlsbad & South Eddy County was able to assist these organizations. We can’t thank you enough for your continued financial support.
Our annual campaign raised about $600,000 to help programs in our community that focus on education, health and income support in South Eddy County. Programs such as our agency of the year, SE NM Community Action Corporation – Senior Division. One of their services delivers meals to the seniors in our community that are unable to join them at the meal site. It is more than just home meal delivery; they do wellness checks and offer house cleaning for those elderly in our community that are in need of that support. We were able to provide financial assistance to over 25 local organizations in our community.
Thank you to all the sponsors we had for our special events including title sponsors, Artesia General Hospital, Constructors, TDM Leasing, United Materials, Nuclear Waste Partnership, LLC, Mosaic and all the countless volunteers that made our special events such a large success. These special events help support our mission of impacting those in need.
We partnered with the City of Carlsbad and Nuclear Waste Partnership to pull together hundreds of volunteers for eight days of rebuilding Playground on the Pecos, a community park that will be enjoyed by the children to support health and wellness in our community for years to come. Thank you to the City of Carlsbad for support of this project financially and organizationally.
Our Board of Directors are instrumental in the success of United Way and I want to thank all of them for their continued support, especially our two veteran board members whose terms are expiring this year; Kathi Wixom and Wendy Ricer. Both of these individuals have been an incredible support to me and our entire organization over the years. Lastly, thank you to our amazing staff at United Way including our Executive Director, Linda Dodd; Manager of Finance, Michelle Whitzel, Office Assistant, Clarissa Carrasco and our new Resource and Special Events Manager, Debby Terrazas. We have a team of great individuals whose work each and every day makes an incredible difference in our community.
Your support to United Way is always appreciated!
